Major milestones in IIAM’s 40 year history
For 40 years, IIAM has transformed the landscape of research organ donation, growing from 10 organs placed in its founding year of 1986 to an anticipated 1,590 organs placed in 2026. This remarkable growth reflects the organization’s unwavering dedication to expanding opportunities for medical research while honoring the selfless decisions of organ donors and their families. Through strategic innovations and key milestones including neonatal donation initiatives, UNET access, eReferral adoption, and automated screening processes – IIAM has continually enhanced its ability to connect the gift of donation with groundbreaking scientific discovery. As IIAM marks this milestone anniversary, the organization celebrates not only its growth in numbers, but also four decades of advancing research, improving lives, and preserving donor legacies.
