How to increase your chances of receiving the organs/tissues you need.

Start broad in your criteria.
Whether it’s age, cold ischemic time (CIT), or non-effecting disease states, you’ll increase the number of offers by starting with broader criteria. They can always be modified as your findings dictate.

Stagger your on-call team.
Always have somebody available. Generally, you’ll see more organ offers on weekends, the summer, and the winter holidays. Staff to accept these organs!

Consider issues
Consider issues that have been absent for a considerable time – such as past smokers and drinkers who quit years ago, or non-lungs from COVID positive donors.

Make sure you’re available
Once you have accepted an organ offer, make sure you’re available at the time of the organs arrival. The ETA will be provided by IIAM.
